A Message in Bible Geneology

This may have already been included in the blog at another time, but it is worth another look.

Bible scholar, Dr. Chuck Missler, had often wondered why the Lord thought it was important enough to include detailed geneology of Adam and what we often refer to as the "begats". So he investigated the scriptures and came up with something very interesting, to say the least. In Genesis 5, we read of the descendants of Adam, the first created man, through to Noah. We all know the part Noah played in God's plan. Dr. Missler spent alot of time researching the names and their meanings.

First is Adam, then Seth, who begat Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, then Noah. The Bible tell us that they lived so many years and begat sons and daughters, then names a particular son.

When you write down what each name means in the original language and tie the meanings together, they form a sentence:
Adam means= Man (is)
Seth means= Appointed
Enos means= Mortal
Cainan means= Sorrow, (but the)
Mahalaleel means= Blessed God
Jared means= Shall come down
Enoch means= Teaching (that)
Methuselah means= His Death Shall Bring (to the)
Lamech means= Despairing (mankind)
Noah means= Comfort and Rest

Put all together into a statement reads:
"Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but the blessed God shall come down, teaching (that) His death shall bring despairing (mankind) comfort and rest."

How like our loving, caring Father to tuck this message of hope into the very depths of His Word. It is there for us to find when we take the time to study and mine the gold nuggets that He has provided for us!

As Bro. Smith has often reminded us, his mentor, Bro. Haney, would tell him "The Bible is an endless sea of knowledge. Jump in and swim forever!!" One day we will get to meet this man of God too!
