A Great Sunday at WCFC

Today, October 10, 2010, Winfield City Family Church, which is now officially an organized church, continues to grow and prosper! We enjoyed a very good crowd today! Bro. Smith always begins the service with announcements and today was a full day. The report on the First Annual Chili Cookoff was that while it did not actually meet expectations money-wise, it was a huge success in alot of ways. Rick's neice and family, Julie and Mark and daughter Olivia, were here from Ohio and were able to spend time with Rick and Carol, as well as help with the cookoff. Olivia was especially helpful to me as I had to unload and set up two booths. Thank you, my new friend Olivia!

All the kids worked hard in the Pepsi wagon serving drinks and food. Several of the prize winners donated their money back to the church. Alot of people took pictures and they will be posted on the blog soon. The events were alot of fun, and there were games and even a pinata' for the kids. Who can forget the apron contest? Ronnie Cockrell was a good sport, wearing a very flattering pink rose apron with alot of lace and ribbons. Gara Wesley wore a hat that was indescribable! So cute, we appreciate all of you.

Mark McDonald gave a short talk explaining DNA connections that form the shape of a Cross. Then he led a prayer before the meal.
I understand there were tense moments during some hard-fought checkers games. All you can say is 'you can't win them all'.
Speaking of competition, the little kids beat the socks off the older ones at knocking the pinata'. It was a sight to see, and so much fun! You could hear horseshoes clanging in the background too.

Bro. Mike Knight and Bro. Smith were in Hamilton ministering to the work release prisoners. If only one man recieves the Lord Jesus, then all those efforts will be well worth it. We know Christ loved us enough that He would have gone to the Cross for only one person. Bro. Todd Scott is a dedicated, strong in the Lord man who works tirelessly in Prison Ministry. We should lift these men up as they do this special calling for the Lord.

We have set a date for the church-wide Yard Sale. It is scheduled for October 23 and will be held on our property on Hwy 129 from 7AM to lunch time. Start now setting out your items to be donated and priced in time for this fund-raiser!!

Without calling for a formal business meeting, Bro. Smith made some appointments for the church:

Janice McDaniel--she will head up the Education Department. Janice is very well qualified for this position because she is a retired school teacher and is teaching the Girls' Sunday School class.
Chris Bell--Youth Leader, Chris has worked with Bro. Smith before, left this area for Illinois, came back home to work with our congregation. His wife, Sara, is a great help to Chris in this area of church work, but we also need the parents to help in whatever way they are able.
Dianne Cockrell--Clerical work, notes and business of the church, and also on the blog team.
Joan Smith--Treasurer of the church, as well as teaching Sunday School, and playing keyboard.
Jerri Scott--she has already been doing much of this work and assisting Joan
Carol and Rick Barton--Benevolence Committee, they are in charge of organizing and notifing people when there is a need such as a death in a family, etc. Carol and Rick have already been doing Angel Food Ministry. Hopefully, one day our church will be in a position to offer a Food Pantry to actually give food to anyone in need. Please pray for this outreach.
Neal and Sondra Sandlin--Activities Directors, such as the Fall Fest and the upcoming Yard Sale.

What a treat for us with special music from Clay and Angela Dye, "It's covered by the Blood, come on home, child". How blessed we are to have such fine singers and musicians. Praise the Lord!
