Jacob Generation

I heard a great sermon today and wanted to just share a short outline of that message. I pray it speaks to your heart as well.

Read Psalms 24.....all the way through. It tells of a Jacob Generation. Are we of that generation today?
It has been said, "Everything that we see in the Spiritual, that relates to our Lord in Israel, has a message to us who are living in the natural."

When you read in Genesis the life of Jacob, we see his name~Yacob~means "supplanter". He was grabbing the heel of his brother to get out first. He was not a man with clean hands or a pure heart. This generation today is not a David generation, not an Elisha generation, not an Elijah generation, it's a Jacob generation. God is raising up a people who, when we go in to worship, the Lord will say "Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in." Ps 24:7

1. This was an unsettled generation. Jacob, with his sinful past as a cheater, himself was cheated with Rachel. Later he thought his brother Esau was coming to destroy him to pay him back for what Jacob had done to him, so he sent his wife out to meet him. What a cowardly act. But, while he was sleeping, God had an encounter with Jacob. God pursues and chases those very people who have messed up, ran away, done wrong, and made a mistake, to bring them to Himself.

2. This was a lonely generation. In Genesis 32 Jacob was left alone. These days we are very busy but often so lonely at times when no one sees the condition of our hearts.

3. This was a struggling generation. In the world today, people everywhere are struggling with problems and rebelling against God. All the time the Father longs for them to come to Him, but they are running, running away, but still feeling that tug.

4. This was a broken generation. Parents today look at their kids and see them as perfect, but when God gets through with them, they are astounded at where those kids were headed if God hadn't stopped them. The good news is that God is able to wrestle with His chosen ones, just like He did with Jacob. The Lord wrestles them down till they come back to Him. How blessed we are that we have a God who will bring the rod of correction and break us down in order to guide us back to the fold. Being broken is not the worst thing that could happen in life.

Read the story of Helen Keller~when they told her about Jesus, she said, Oh, I knew Him, but I didn't know His name. Just look what God brought out of her life. She was broken.

Beethovan became deaf~why would God give such a great musician and then let him go deaf? God could have healed him, but the greatest music came when he could only hear God. He was broken.

Fanny Crosby~if you know anything about that great hymn writer, she was blinded at birth when they mistakenly put sulfuric acid in the newborn's eyes. Yet she wrote some of the world's best~loved gospel music. Do you know this one?

"When my life's work is ended and I cross the swelling tide,
and the bright and glorious morning I shall see,
I shall know my Redeemer, when I reach the other side,
and His smile shall be the first to welcome me,

I shall know Him, I shall know Him, and redeemed, by His side I shall stand,
I shall know Him, I shall know Him, by the prints of the nails in His hands."
If anyone was ever broken, this lady was broken.

Nobody ever was blessed who was not broken first. What are you doing with your sorrows? What's this crushing going on? Could it be God who's wrestled you to the ground? God, in His great love, may break you to bring you to Himself. If that's you, just hang onto Jesus' Hand, for He doeth all things well. We have His Word on that, and He cannot lie.

Christmas play 2009 pictures

Here are a few pictures from our Christmas Play 2009 directed by Sister Janice McDonald. I would like to say everyone did a wonderful job. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped out with costumes. Sunday was a very enjoyable day in the Lord. I believe our children will remember it from years to come.

After over 15 years in walking with the Lord, God has always blessed our efforts with working with the youth and children at Christmas play times. We (Brother Smith and I) have had children who later , come back as adults and say
" I remember the time you spent with me , during the play...I felt so important to you and God"

Anyway, these are very special times with our gift from God (our children). I thank God for each and every one.

God Bless You!

Prayer Requests and Praise Reports!!

We have some good news about two children who were prayed for a week ago. They are now both doing very well, and the baby boy got a report from the doctor saying he couldn't find anything wrong with his heart. They believed the baby had heart trouble, but the Lord fixed that. Amen! Also, Neal Sandlin had more surgery on his neck and had some nerve pressure. He had a really rough go for a while, but said he is very, very much better now with alot less pain. Praise the Lord!!

Our church is such a wonderful place to share joy and sorrow with brothers and sisters of the Body of Christ. It makes you feel like you have arrived at the ER filled with caring doctors and nurses who only want to support and care for you when you are too sick or weak to help yourself. Recently Joyce Meyer said, "we must remember that the ONLY real and permanent help we have in this life is God." Jesus made us a promise to never leave us or forsake us, and He will not and He cannot lie. Hang onto that in these trying days. It seems everyday we hear of someone dear who is ill or facing a challenge they cannot go through alone. Praise the Lord, we have a place to go for help. "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous run into it, and is safe." Proverbs 18:10

A dear member of our church, Travis Ray Carter, is facing a life-threatening illness and was told that without surgery, there is nothing the doctors can do. He has chosen to stand with the Lord and trust in the Great Physician. Let's lift him and the family up in prayer. He is my step-father and I can tell you he has treated me and my whole family like his own. He has loved and helped many people over the years all over the country, from customers to old Army buddies to the many churches he insured over the years.

Another need for prayer is Linda Frank's husband who has to go to B'ham Tuesday morning for tests. Also, Mildred Ray's grandson is still in the hospital and needs to be remembered. Jerrie's husband, Drake, is home from the hospital but having a very tough time recovering. Pray for this whole precious family. There are many more needs I don't know about, but our Father does.

Many times, we fail to see what is right in front of our eyes; suffering and lonely folks who could do with a phone call, card or a visit to cheer them up and let them know somebody cares. If you have ever been in a 'valley' and needed help, think what any little expression of love meant to you. Jesus calls us to deny self and follow Him. I would also like to ask you to remember me. I have been in a very low place in my spirit for the last several weeks and I really need your prayers and love those who have already been there for me. What a difference it makes to know you have a true friend, I said a TRUE FRIEND who will interceed for you. Thank you to Beverly Foster for being a really good one, I love you. Also, Deb, Jan, Margie, Janice, Carol, Beth, Sondra, Joan, great ladies!
God Bless you all!

Manna~Fest

If you get this program, Manna~Fest, you probably already have heard this show in the series. It is hosted by Perry Stone, and he has featured his father, Bro. Fred Stone several times. This one really grabbed my attention. Hope you enjoy this quick outline. The series airing now is called "Supernatural Encounters in the Last Days."

Bro. Stone, Sr. told of an incident several years before where he had a special visitation of the Lord. He was on his knees praying and the Holy Spirit came upon him so mightily that he was allowed to look into Heaven. His inner man was taken up and he saw a great Library full of huge, beautiful books. One was titled, "The Mighty Acts and Words of Jesus". This book contained Christ's preaching that was not recorded in the Bible. John 21:25, which is the very last verse in the book of John, says "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written."

Bro. Fred found in this particular book, for instance, the Sermon on the Mount. The Holy Spirit put into the Bible what He wanted us to read, but there are millions of words and sermons of our Lord Jesus. Many preachers get so inspired today as God pulls some of Jesus' teaching and people will marvel at some of this preaching. They ask, "where did that come from?". It's like our Pastor tells us, the Bible is an endless stream of God's truth! To think the King of Kings would give us His divine Words of Life, what a precious gift is ours for the taking! Awesome!

God is no respecter of persons, we only need to hunger and thirst after righteousness. Bro. Fred Stone, Sr. said we should be true to God always, no need to worry about the ups and downs, the sweet times and the sour times of life. This dear man of God, now in his late 70's, talked about how quickly his life had passed, seemed like no time at all. Always keep the Lord first and stay true to Him and His Plan for our lives because we are going home soon. We will see those we have loved and gone on ahead, we will see the Holy Angels, and we will finally see the wonderful face of Jesus, who loved and died for us, and lives evermore!!!

Just a few thoughts....

How sweet the time we take to just enjoy the presense of the Lord of Hosts, to bask in His infinite love and mercy, to read the Word and ponder the greatest story ever told. What mercy He bestows upon man, who has failed God at every turn, yet He loved us enough to give the very best He had for us. Amazing Grace!!!

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." Ps 37:4

"The joy of the Lord is my strength." Nehemiah 8:10

"If we say we have no sin, we decieve ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:8,9.
In our Christian life too, practice makes perfect-when you fall and fail, confess it to the Lord and try again-He remembers we are dust.

Our God is an awesome God!!

Someone once asked, why do we run from the only One who can help us? Waiting on the Lord is not giving up, it is only putting it in God's hands. Lord, help us to realize we can't fix everything, we need Jesus every minute of every day. If we have a heart tuned to hear the words of the Lord, and desire to cleave to Him, we will face the rage of Hell itself-but that battle is the Lord's. He will fight it for us.

"Don't worry about what you don't understand of the Bible, worry about what you DO understand and don't live by." Billy Graham

Close to His Heart

How often do we stray from the ways of the Lord only to face defeat in our lives? God desires for us to walk near Him and trust Him for every battle we face, and He wants us to share our joys with Him. Our God is as close as a whispered prayer.

This message was given for another time and place, but is just as fresh today as it was then:

"Ye shall be victorious only to the degree that ye trust Me. I can help thee only as ye ask. Only as ye WALK shall the waters of adversity be parted before thee. I need those who have proved My sufficiency to lead the suffering to the fountains of Life."

My, how precious are the promises of the Lord, how comforting are His words, how gentle His love for His children. Knowing Jesus, and being wrapped up in the sweetness of the Holy Spirit, how could we help but love and obey the One who gave His all to buy our pardon! Lord, help us all to keep You close in our hearts and rest secure, knowing that in all our days, whether they are filled with laughter and joy, or seem to be only one long night of sorrow, Your boundless love sustains us. No matter what!

Proverbs 3:5,6-
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths."
Read a little bit of Proverbs, and you'll see right away that the whole book is speaking of wisdom and foolishness. All wisdom comes from the Father, and we sure do make a mess of things when we go our own way.

I know I've found that out too many times. Thank you, Lord, for not throwing me aside in my own selfish, and foolish mistakes. Thank you for your love and mercy, for the Word tells us: His mercy endureth forever!!! AMEN and AMEN!!

Singing, Singing!!!

In case you never noticed before, WCFC is overflowing with musicians!!! Bro. Todd is a great singer and guitar player, as is his son, Austin. That young man is awesome, just wonderful on guitar. Todd often leads the singing and also teaches the adult SS class. Joan is so annointed on the keyboard and a good singer also. (We just want to hear more from her).

Sunday morning Janice McDaniel honored us with a beautiful song that speaks to the heart: In the good times and in the bad, give Him thanks!! What a precious message in song. For a very long time, Janice didn't really want to sing as she had in the past, but since coming to our church, the Holy Spirit gave her back that desire! Glory to God!! She has such a talent and how like the Lord to restore what the enemy has taken away. Janice told us about an unexpected direction her life took when her son, Joseph, was only 16 months old. Newly divorced with a child to raise and with no job, life didn't look easy to her. However, the Lord had a plan. She did get a job and then went on to a teaching career, and was a loving and devoted mom to her son. That child is now in his 30's and just recently had lost his job and had his heart broken by his fiance'. When all looked so grave for him, he gave his heart to the Lord and is now testifying to the grace and mercy of God-Praise the Lord!!!! When Joseph had lost his job, he went for an interview-so had 2,000 other people. Guess who got the job? Yes, Joseph!!! That song on Sunday was perfect. In the good times and in the bad, give the Lord praise. Her scripture for strength in the hard times is Joshua 1:9. "Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
Thank you, Janice, for your witness and encouragement through your own trials.

Jennifer was here Sunday night and she sang "My Spirit pants for You" She has a beautiful voice and we are always glad to see her and especially love it when she sings to us.

Sunday night was also testimony time. Is there ever a time when we shouldn't praise Him? It is so important for our walk with the Lord to give Him praise even when we are hurting and don't feel much like ANY kind of praise. Maybe that's the test of our faith-to thank Him when we want to do anything but praise. The Word tells us that we are strengthened by honoring our Father at all times. God has a reason for His commandments to us. It lifts us up as well as being the way UP and out of our depths of despair. His plan for us is to give us peace and show us a better way to live.

Have you ever heard of "AngelFood"? Not me, but Carol Barton knows all about this program and is leading us in this ministry. She was in charge of this at the Haleyville COG. She gave out the printouts of the November Menu and it is something that looks good. There is a Signature Box, that will feed a family of four for 1 week, a Senior Box, Allergen-free Box, Thanksgiving/Holiday Box, and 4 November Specials. If you need more information, please call Carol @ 486-4868. Thanks to her for taking on this project-may the Lord richly bless you for your faithfulness!!! (Noone even asked her to do this-WOW)

A Lesson from the Potter's House

This morning, Bro. Dewayne sang such a precious song called, "He didn't throw away the clay."

Isaiah 64:8 reads:
"But now, O Lord, thou are our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand."
Potters are one of the oldest known craftsmen throughout history. The Lord used them to illustrate His points in teaching His children of His ways. Potters had a place where they would just toss out clay that couldn't be used. Often we look at certain people and wonder why God doesn't throw them away. We need to consider His Word concerning our own usefullness, and how we are like clay in His hands.

1. God thinks about you. He knew all about you before you WERE! The Holy Spirit can accomplish what He wants to do and succeed through you-if you follow Him. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that the Lord knows the thoughts He has toward you, thoughts of peace and not of evil. When will we learn to put our lives in His hands, to be molded to His will?

2. God puts His eyes on you. He looks at the real you and sees the finished product. Pray that God's eyes are on you, delivering you from evil. Respect Him, fear the Lord, talk to Him and study His Word daily.

3. God puts His feet on you. The potter had to mix the clay with water, walk on it, sifting and squeezing out the rocks and debris, softening it, refining the clay. When it is cleaned of the impurities, He walks on it on the floor. Ever feel like you've been walked on? He smoothes out the lumps that would mar us and He makes us like Himself. Then He picks up the clay and puts it on the wheel, so He can put His hands on it and make it a vessel of honor that will never be marred. Learn to listen to the Lord's voice-He wants to take you where you will be used for the Master.

4. God puts us in the furnace. In the old days they sun-dried pottery, then they learned to fire the pieces. There has been pottery found that is centuries old. The firing time is crucial. Our Father knows exactly how long we can bear the heat and how hot the fire we can stand.

5. God scours and finishes us, preparing us for the final application of paint. That is the annointing. He brings you out of the fire, polishes, then paints you with His annointing. Not all of us turn out the same. Not all of us have the same gifts, the same glaze, but now we are able to be poured into-in order to pour out. Finally, God sees to it that the quality is there before He puts His name on it. Some vessels won't accept the pressure, being stubborn vessels, and falling apart. God has to start over, again and again, working the process all over again.

Where are you in this process?

Update on a Prayer Request

Last week we were asked to pray for an elderly gentleman who has cancer and the outlook is not good. However, his daughter says that they were very comforted by the doctor/oncologist who is a Christian and takes his patient's needs very, very seriously. He deals with the entire family, hugs the patient and even gives out his personal cell number. Mr. Harold Sherer is facing alot of treatment and a long battle, and they want to say to the church they appreciate the prayers. That means so much to them all.

The Wednesday night study is on Revelation and it is a deep book. Please come and join in.

"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to recieve glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Rev. 4:11

Amen

Reading the Scroll

Bro. Smith preached a wonderful sermon on Luke 4:18 &19. You could just read those verses and not notice in the verses just above that Jesus had a Divine Appointment where He went into the synagogue to start reading the Scroll where it had been opened to a certain place in Isaiah (Is. 61:1, 2). In verse 21, Jesus said to them "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears".

We need to realize that the "gospel" means good news-it liberates us. God's way is to love our enemies, take what He has given so freely and give it to others. Learn the economics of God-tithe, believe in what the Word says, read the Bible, and obey the Lord when He speaks to us. Many people who have been forced to withstand severe, fiery trials will tell you, it is ONLY prayer and the close communion with a loving Father that can comfort the heart. Jesus said He is annointed to heal the broken-hearted. When you are down and out, deep in depression, facing oppression, what gets you through that? If you are a child of the Lord, His annointing will lift you up.

We need to praise Him in every situation in life. It's not easy. It is NOT easy. But the Bible tells us Jesus wants to dwell in the praises of His people. Praising the Lord is key. In life we get hurt by people and even in the church. We get our feelings hurt by something or someone and go back out to the world. Satan brings hurting church people into captivity, but Jesus can heal up our hurts-He wants to fix what is broken. We may mask the pain and build walls for
protection, but the One who searches the heart knows and sees it all. We will never hide anything from the Lord. Once you can lay all the shattered dreams and broken lives at the foot of the Cross, Jesus is ready to come in and heal the hurting soul.

We have Talent!!!

Yes, we indeed have been blessed with the arrival of Janice McDaniel to our church. Last Sunday night, she treated us to that beautiful song, "To God be the Glory". Her voice reminds me of Sandi Patty who is world-famous and sings often with The Gaither's Homecoming Series. Janice is a precious, dear and loving person, and I just want to welcome her to WCFC.

We are looking forward to hearing more singing from Janice-soon! Also, the new bulletin board is one she did just this week. Make a point to see it for yourself. Great talent!

We have also have some other visitors who, hopefully, will be a permanent part of the church. Linda Franks and her daughter have been coming, as well as several people who live at Crestwood and ride the church van.

Divine Appointments

Isn't it awesome how our Father 'sets us up' sometimes? He may put you in a certain situation with a particular person at His designated time and place for the purpose of glorifying Jesus. Just today I saw Dr. Kandie Sherer and she asked if our church would please put her 84-year-old dad on our prayer list. Of course, I said I would do it that night, being a Wednesday night.

She said he has always been a very active and healthy man, a good, good man. He knew he had cancer but now, they are going to find out how much worse the cancer is than they had believed in the beginning. They will be seeing the doctor in the morning. It seems more involved than they thought before, and will need more treatment. She told me something he said the other day and I wanted to just share it with you. They have a family burial plot where his dad and mom are, and then when he and his wife (of 64 years!!!) pass, they will be buried there also. He wants to be placed where he would be as close as possible to the two women he loves so much, and that way, he would be able to 'protect' them. When he told this, his wife came over to him and gave him a big hug and a kiss and a huge I LOVE YOU. Isn't that a wonderful story? A caring husband, dedicated father and someone who so loves the Lord Jesus Christ, that is a powerful testimony. I don't personally know Kandie's dad, but Neal and Sondra Sandlin are close friends of the family. His name is Harold Sherer and I know you will remember this family in your prayers. Dr. Kandie always brags on Neal and Sondra and her whole family loves them.

Isn't it wonderful that we are able to lift each other up in prayer as a church? That's what it means to be part of the Family of God. What a blessing.

Oh,I have a praise report!

As you may know, I do alot of sewing and quilting and have for 30 years. Much of my things are for sale, some are for family and I try to do a little volunteer sewing. Two weeks ago, I had to return some beautiful pieced "Lonestar" blocks to the Quilting Guild I belong to in Tuscaloosa. Can't say it wasn't tempting to just somehow keep all that pretty stitching someone else had done and donated to the group, but it really did NOT belong to me, so I knew I had to give it all back. That was hard to do. That was on a Saturday morning. The very NEXT day, Sunday morning, Jerrie Scott brought me a huge box of quilt scraps. Yummy!! What I couldn't get over, in the bottom of the box were many gorgeous quilt blocks--done in vintage fabric in the exact same "Lonestar" pattern of the ones I had returned the day before!!!! Less than 24 hours later. Is that GOD or WHAT????? I mean, the exact pattern!! Wow, how's that for the hand of God? Thank you, Jerrie, for your kindness and thoughtfulness.

We have such a great congregation, don't we? Each person fits into the Body to do what He has called us to do. God help us do more for You.

Someone once said "Lord, help me do today what I will wish I had done when I stand in Your Presence".

Amen

Learning to Lean

How precious it is to lean on the strong arm of our Lord. How many sleepless nights and tears of frustration we shed when we should bring ALL our burdens to Jesus. How hard we make the way when we try to do it alone and fight the battles without Him Who died to make us victorious.

We are defenseless without the aid of our Heavenly Father.

Enjoy this short message; it has ministered to me for several years and I hope you get a blessing from it's reading.

"Release Thy Grief"

My child, lean thy head upon My bosom. Well I know thy weariness, and every burden I would lift. Never bury thy griefs, but offer them up to Me. Thou wilt relieve thy soul of much strain if ye can lay every care in My hand. Never cling to any trouble, hoping to resolve it thyself, but turn it over to Me; and in so doing, ye shall free Me to work it out.

Cast aside thy questionings. Fling aside thy fears. For surely Mine arms are already outstretched to recieve thee~Only Believe!!! For in that moment that thou relinquish ALL~in that same moment shall thou know release. Mine arms shall gather thee, and I shall never let thee go!

Praise the Lord! We serve a God Who will not let us get away from Him. We are safe forevermore within the arms of our Saviour the minute we become a child of the King! He WILL honor His Word!

Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!!!!!!

If there is anyone out there who loves and remembers the comfort of a handmade quilt, you may get a blessing from this short story I got from a quilter's blog last week. For me, I have been quilting for the last 30 years and can tell you, I stitch my joys and my sorrows into my creations. It is great therapy, joy for my hands as well as my heart. The Lord has allowed me to bless others with my sewing, and He has given me many dear friends through this wonderful artform.

Philippians 4:13 tells us we can do all things through Christ which strenghtens us.

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls. Before each of us laid our lives like squares of a quilt in many piles, an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares into a tapestry that is our life.

But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in everyday life. I saw hardships I had endured which were the largest of all.

I glanced around. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the others tapestries were filled with rich colors and bright hues of wordly fortune. I gazed on my own life and was disheartened. My angel was sewing ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air.

Finally, the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their own tapestry. So filled had been their lives. My angel looked at me and nodded for me to rise.

My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly forture. I had had love in my life, and laughter. But there had been trials of illness and trials of wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world as I knew it. I had to start over many times, often struggling with temptation to just quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to my Father, hoping that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me.

And now, I had to face the truth: my life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was. I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light.

An awe-inspired gasp filled the very air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.

Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, "Everytime you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardship, My struggle. Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through until there was more of Me than of you."

May all your quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Jesus Christ to shine through!!!

A New Revelation

Bro. Smith began a new study series this past Wednesday night, and it is going to be an awesome adventure!! You'll want to come out and join us as we explore this deep, DEEP book of the Word of God. There is so much to learn and even if you have read and studied Revelation before, you will find there is always much more gold to mine out of these precious Scriptures. Thankfully, Bro. Dewayne has devoted countless hours and YEARS of study in order to help us begin to get a picture of what the Lord has in store for those who love and desire to learn of Him.

The Book of Revelation is NOT a sealed book~it is a book that God wants us to study and understand. Much of it covers the period of Daniel's seventieth week. While it is a difficult book, the Lord promises a blessing to all who read and keep these sayings. There are many things that set this book apart from all the rest of the Bible.

1~It is the only prophetic book in the New Testament.

2~The study of any Scripture is profitable (11 Tim. 3:16)

3~This prophecy concerns us, since we will be glorified with Christ.

The Apostle John wrote this Book at age 90+. John saw Jesus as He really is, just as one day we will see Him. What an amazing thought!

Verse 19 gives the outline of the entire Book:
1~The things which thou hast seen
2~The things which are~The Church Age
3~The things which shall be hereafter~after the Church Age.

How wonderful it is to know Jesus Christ loves us, He washed us, and He lives for us! The events spoken of will come to pass and soon~are you ready?

The Fig Tree

Maybe you have read the story in Mark 11 about how Jesus cursed the fig tree. I have. Many, many times. However, I have to admit I never understood that story at all. Not even close. It was a mystery. Fortunately, we at WCFC, have an extremely educated and knowledgeable pastor who explained this scripture Sunday night.

In Mark 11:12-14, Jesus came to the fig tree and looked for figs to eat. There were none as it was not the time of year for figs. That's about as far as I ever got on this passage. Verse 14 says that Jesus "answered" the tree. That means He TOLD the fig tree to produce figs-NOW. It did not do so and was cursed so that it was "dried up from the roots", Mark 11:20. When the disciples questioned the Lord about this, Jesus told him to "Have faith in God". Then He went on to talk about how they could move mountains, when Peter had been thinking about that fig tree.

When you begin to think about how God works, you realize that Jesus comes to us and tells us to produce fruit. We can obey or refuse. We have to listen to Him and give that good work for the Lord. How? How do we obey God? Have faith in God, have God's kind of faith, v. 22. It is a process--it takes time. Look at the disciples. They walked and talked with Jesus on a daily basis, yet when the end came, they even denied Christ. Jesus had told them if they would believe and not doubt, they could have what they said. How loving and forgiving Jesus has always been to His children.

In the same way, we must SPEAK to the mountain in our lives-not doubting, having faith. Say it out loud-say it so the demons hear. They are ever-listening to what we speak with the mouth. Proverbs 6:2 says you are snared by the words of your mouth. So, speak out goodness, positive, Godly things into the atmosphere. Speak to your problems and trials. Don't give in to fear. The Lord will take care of you if you obey Him!! If you have a fault against anyone, forgive them, as your Father forgives you. He will help you do this. It may be difficult, but there is nothing too hard when you have the Lord on your side to help you.

Too many times, we are blinded to the evil that Satan does, and blame God for the hurts and trials in our lives. Remember, the Devil comes but to kill, steal and destroy, but God has a perfect plan for us. We are to remain obedient to Him and stay on guard for the wiles of the enemy. You can say it out loud: devil, get out of my way, get your hands off my children, you can't have them, and plead the Blood of Jesus over them. Satan is really so very small up against God Almighty.

Lord, give us Your kind of faith.

We need the Lord......and each other!

We read in the Gospels that Jesus Himself attended many social events when He walked the earth. He knew we all need the comfort and support of each other. We need to be mindful of the needs of our sisters and brothers in the Lord. The Bible teaches us that often the reason we are called upon to endure suffering is so that we will then be able to help and offer reassurance to someone else facing trouble. Just as we read about the woman at the well in John 4, who had a divine appointment with the King of Kings, we can be used of God to minister to another person. Christ used a "word of knowledge" to touch her heart, and then we read that she went to her city to tell everyone that she had met a man who told her everything she ever did. In the same way, every soul won to the Savior is key to hundreds more. That means you and I are important to the Lord!! Think of it....we are important to the God of all the Ages. That's why Satan works so hard to tear us down. How inspiring that is, and how like Jesus to let us know He loves and works through us. Read John 6:39. Many of the Samaritans believed on Jesus for the word of that woman. In verse 41, many more believed because of His own word.

Your harvest is your eternal reward. One sows, one waters, and another will reap the harvest. It is God who gives the increase. God is very serious about the harvest, and what a priviledge to be a part of His great Plan. Let's not miss out on any part of our destiny. What really matters really? Is it a better job or getting a bigger house? Not when you consider eternity-it's all about pouring our love and energy into doing His will. We are not promised tomorrow. Love somebody and tell them about the Love of Jesus today!!!

Homecoming Report

Winfield City Family Church celebrated our Homecoming Sunday Oct 4 marking our two year anniversary! Praise God for His blessings! We had a singing with Tucson Stovall /Pure Heart Ministries and lunch together downstairs, with 57 in attendance.
We also had a special surprise from the Beasley family who visited with us for lunch and singing. (The Beasley family have graciously allowed us to use the disbanded Concord Primitive Baptist Church building).
God is amazing. He is healing and breaking down barriers between Christian churches.

God has also blessed us with a church van to pick up several people from the Crestwood apartment outreach who do not have the transportation.

Thank you to Brother Ronnie Cockrell and Brother Neal Sandlin for volunteering to drive!

God is Good all the time! All the time God is Good!

Mule Day Thank you!

Thanks to everyone who pulled together to help with Mule Day outreach. It rained washed the crowds down, but it gave us a small taste of what outreach is all about. It takes a lot of work and prayer, as well as people to witness.

God bless everyone who helped!

Praise the Lord

It looks like the Lord has smiled on Bro. Smith and his family this week!! One blessing was sitting out front of the church on Sunday morning: namely, a church VAN! And at a great price (I am told). Bro. Alan took it home to check it out mechanically, and looks like we have a driver already, Bro. Ronnie. Please pray for this outreach ministry for our church, that many more people will be able to attend services. Awesome!!!

Bro. Smith has been in need of a little extra spending money, and seems the Lord worked on behalf of a member to be the source for this need. God be praised. Not only that, but just recently, our Pastor was out to eat a meal and when they were through, the owner told them that someone had already paid the bill!!! WOW When the Lord puts His mighty hand to bless His children, you can see Him at work, and it is wondrous to behold.

Another blessing and something Bro. Smith has wanted for a long time, is a clear pulpit to preach from, and the Lord moved on a lady to GIVE it to him. He did give us the apprearance that he was a happy man Sunday.

If you have not been coming to church on Sunday nights at 5, you have been missing a blessing. We have great singing and even better preaching. This Sunday, two men gave testimonies that were similar. Bro. Todd told of being in a place of having to make a work decision. He had a prospect of making really, really good money, but would have to first borrow alot of money upfront. He said he'd prayed about this and just couldn't get peace from God to go ahead, so he didn't launch out when it didn't seem right. Turns out, the company offering the work has now closed, so Todd would have been in a really tough position if he had not sought the Lord's direction on this.

Also, Bro. Ronnie has been praying for a long time about his job, long-haul trucking, and has had to stay out for up to three weeks at a time. He had an opportunity to go with another company for better pay and better hours, but like Todd, he would have had to invest and borrow more money to make the change. He continued to pray and seek the Lord's will and finally, the answer came to him in God's time, and it has worked out that he has been able to be home on the weekend so that he could be there to get to church. That was the main prayer request. We are rejoicing with these two men as they praise the Lord for His leadership. God is good-all the time.

We need to keep Jesus first in our lives, in the bad times as well as the good times. God has our best interests in mind regardless of the circumstances. This is easy to say, but something different when things go wrong in our lives. I am reminded of our precious Ms. Rosa, and how she always encouraged others to 'never, ever give up on God, no matter what happens in life, He knows what is best. He is our Strength, our Rock and our Fortress. ' Ms. Rosa told me to just put my trust in the Lord, because bad things do happen to good people. I miss that sweet lady so much, but I know we will see her again. She made the effort to get a very precious book to me personally, when I shared some heartache with her. What a prayer warrior she was and don't you know she is basking in the presence of Jesus? Yes, we will see her and many other loved ones in Heaven soon.

Learning to Lean

How often do we have to stop and realize just how much we depend on the strong arm of the Lord in our lives? It should be every minute of every day. We are like sheep~dumb and unable to even feed ourselves~without the leadership of our Shepherd. God tells us His mercy endures forever. Look up Psalms 136 in your spare time. What a comfort!! We most likely go through each day never even comprehending how we are loved and protected by our Heavenly Father, who has sent His Ministering Angels to watch over His children. How then should we live? Yes, how then should we live?

We have an enemy who delights in dragging us down, using any weapon available. One way is through our past. Satan wants us to stay bound, but Jesus wants us to live each day new. Paul urges us to forget those things that are behind and reach to that which lies ahead. We have the tools, thanks to the finished work of Jesus, to put the past in the past, to forgive ourselves, as He has forgiven us our sins. 2 Cor. 5:17 reads, "...if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature..." Only through Christ can we succeed and defeat the Devil in our lives. Through Him we are worthy, the grace of God makes us worthy~it's all about Jesus!!!!

New Testament Gospel in the Old Testament

If you read Genesis 5, you will perhaps wonder what would make this information, all the geneology so important. Bible scholars have studied the Jewish scriptures and the Hebrew meaning of names. One such man has found a wonderful message hidden away in the Torah. In this chapter, the names' meaning given in the order listed revealed a one-sentence summary of the New Testament Gospel.

ADAM = Man
SETH = appointed
ENOS = mortal (wound, grief, miserable)
CAINAN = sorrow
MAHALALEEL = (but the) Blessed God
JARED = shall come down
ENOCH = teaching (that)
METHUSELAH = his death shall bring
LAMECH = the despairing (world/mankind)
NOAH = comfort or rest

Here it is in one sentence:

Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but the Blessed God shall come down, teaching that His (Jesus's) death shall bring the despairing (world) comfort and rest.

I don't know about you, but this is simply amazing to me and makes me want to learn more about the Bible. To think how God reveals these treasures within His Word, oh, what a Mighty, Awesome God we serve!!!!

Slight Change of Plans?

On August 30, we were expecting the ladies from Teen Challenge, but at the last minute, their escort/leader was unable to attend, so hopefully, we can schedule them a little later on. There might have been drenching rain outside, but there was "Son-Light" here at WCFC with great singing and preaching and a fantastic dinner following. If you missed that day, you missed a blessing! Bro. Dewayne sang "I can't even walk without You holding my hand......down on my knees is where I learned how to stand". Annointed music.

The Message today was on our so-called "drug of choice". It may not necessarily be a drug or cigarette or bottle that is between you and a closer walk with God. 2 Cor. 7:1 tells us to "cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit" At some point, we need to realize our need for Jesus to help us cleanse ourselves, and to live to glorify the Lord.
1- We must CONFESS our sins to Jesus, remembering 1 John 1:9. God is not a liar, and He will keep His Word~you can stake your very life on that promise!

2- We must have FAITH in the Lord to help us with whatever cravings or struggles are facing us in life. 1 John 4:4 "greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world." Talk to that addiction, that problem, that mountain, that warfare, that impossible situation, THEN you can be an overcomer.

Sunday night service was a good one too. Bro. Todd sang "You're all I want, All I've ever needed." Emily and Mollie sang "Jesus, Lover of my Soul". Bro. Smith sang a song he wrote called "He is God, He moves me still".

The message on Sunday night was how we are to bear fruit as is pleasing to the Lord. Every branch that does not bear fruit is cut out and cast away. We need to take care to 'weed out' our lives with the Word. The Bible can keep us clean and refreshed. Church can be cleansing for each of us, helping to release the bad things that strangle us and keep us from producing good fruit. Without Jesus, we can do nothing and we ARE nothing. It's as simple as that~take out the doubt and fear, replace it with the Word!

Prayer Request

Sunday afternoon Bro. Travis Ray Carter was out and was about to turn into his daughter's driveway when he accidently hit the gas pedal and went into the canal on Foothill Road. The Lord was with him because it is about a 20' to 25' dropoff down to the water. He is going to be alright but is banged up pretty bad with cuts and bruises. He just turned 85 years old this month. Please be in prayer for him. They wanted to keep him in the hospital overnight and hopefully he can come home in a day or so.

UPDATE

Good Morning!

Our Revival was wonderful~every night of it! Many were touched by the Mighty Hand of the Almighty during this time of annointing. We owe a great debt of thanks to Bro. Nick McSpadden and his precious family for touching our hearts with singing, preaching, praying, and helping bring a true revival to our church. That doesn't mean we don't need to pray continually for the Lord to search our hearts and draw us ever closer to Jesus. We have to be vigilant and on guard, knowing we have an enemy who is constantly going to and fro on the Earth seeking whom he may devour. That's a promise you can take to the bank! But remember what Jesus told us, "Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good" Romans 12:21 Thanks be to God who has already defeated the enemy. Come on, let's fight the good fight, not fainting when the Cross gets heavy and the battle fierce.

A few years ago, I was going through (it's always THROUGH trials, not around them) a hard time and the Lord gave me a scripture I had read dozens of times, but He made the words jump out of the page. Hebrews 12:1-3. "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin which does so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the JOY set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured such contradiction of sinners against Himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds." It just hit me, HARD, that joy was US, it was me and you!!! He did it for us~and if He could endure all that untold suffering, can't we simply live for Him and love Him? Think of it~WE ARE HIS JOY!!!!!

The kids did a great job with their dramas and we were so blessed by seeing the young folks taking part~makes us older ones feel like we are truly seeing the Lord raising up a new generation of leaders. Praise God!!!! We got to meet brothers and sisters in Christ from other towns and some local churches and what a blessing that was. Our Pastor is beloved by many, many wonderful Christians all over. We appreciate Bro. Smith and his family, but probably not nearly enough, because this man is outstanding in his knowledge of the Bible, and for his love for people. We are blessed to be able to be lead by such a wonderful Shepherd of the Body of Christ. Bro. Nick mentioned a song he loves so much: "Broken, spilled, and poured out at His feet". That is where we should be longing to be~Noone will ever love you like Jesus. Amen.

Revival @ WCFC

The revival began this Sunday with Bro. Nick McSpadden and will continue through Wednesday night.
This Sunday morning just before the service started, Neal Sandlin went up front to thank the church for standing with them and praying during the illness and passing of his dad, Harold, on July 30. Neal told about when Harold suddenly opened his eyes and was just looking around with JOY at "something wonderful". We can only guess that maybe he was getting his first look at that land we call Beulah. One day each of us will be at the end of life as we know it here on earth. For now, all we have is the eye-witness testimony of those who have been permitted to peek into that homeland and have come back here to tell others. We should never EVER question the experiences of His saints. The Lord has a reason for everything and we don't have a right to dismiss or second-guess the work of the Holy Spirit. Neal also (tho' he spoke through his tears) thanked Ray Carter who had told of the day Harold got down on the floor to get his heart right with God and to be ready if the Lord were to take him on home.) That is a great relief and a blessing to a whole family, because we are told by the Apostle Paul in 1 Thess. 4:13....that ye sorrow not, even as others who have no hope.

Bro. McSpadden started the Revival off with a powerful message "Never Underestimate the Mercy of God"

God is a God of Judgment and Mercy, His character never changes. We need to recognize that we are a needy people-we so need the Lord's mercy everyday. When we truly TRUST God, He will show up for us. Jesus is showing us that we need to take to heart the story of the woman with the daughter who was vexed with a devil in Matthew 15:22-28.

This woman:
1- is persistent and asks for mercy. We need to follow her example. She only cared about the great need for her daughter's deliverance, saying, 'I'll be satisfied with just a little crumb'.

2- has a merciful heart. If your need is great enough, your dignity won't keep you from getting what you need.

3- she knew her position, and she knew HIS position. Mercy connects you to the miraculous.

The Lord showed up MIGHTILY during our Sunday services. His presence could be felt and seen. What a sweet sweet spirit in this place. Lord, help us to never be satisfied with the 'everyday' and be always hungry and thirsty for more. More of Jesus and His Amazing Love!

Another one goes to be with the Lord

As everyone knows, Harold Sandlin has been in the hospital in Birmingham since just before Easter. He passed on July 30 in the wee hours of Thursday morning. Neal and Sondra and Harold's wife Eloise were with him during the night and said he went peacefully. Neal related that shortly before then, he suddenly raised slightly and opened his eyes wide and smiled really big as he was witnessing something amazing. We can only guess what he was privileged to see. Many have been at the bedside of a dying person who knows God and they tell of Angels in the room-I have no doubts about this as my own dad saw Jesus and 'the most beautiful angels all over the room'. We know if our eyes were opened, we would also behold that glimpse of Glory. We who have loved ones on the other side know we have more to look forward to when it is our turn to cross that river.

Thanks to everyone at WCFC who has called or visited or brought food during this time. The viewing is tonight, Friday at 6pm at Miles Funeral Home and the funeral will be Saturday at 11am.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints". Praise God!! We do not have to fear, because of the lover of our souls, King Jesus.

Arrangements for Ms. Rosa

We may have lost a member of our church but Heaven is brighter today for her arrival in that City. Ms. Rosa Winn passed July 21, 2009 around 10:30 AM at the home of her daughter, Carol Barton. She had just turned 80 and we were honored to be able to celebrate her birthday, along with Travis Ray Carter on the same Sunday after morning services. The Lord uses people to point the Way to Him and we are blessed in the process. Ms. Rosa (as I have always called her) had made a request for a Memorial Fund to be given to Winfield City Family Church. Probably only a handful of folks knew about this, but how like her to think of others during her last days. If you were in church the day of her birthday, you may remember what she spoke about: On several occasions, she would be literally at death's door and yet, not go on to be with the Lord. She told of seeing her late husband, the love of her life, Vernon Winn, Sr. and they would be on opposite sides of a river. They would each walk the banks until they'd get to a bridge, where he told her, "no, it's not time for you to cross over quite yet, you still have a work to do on earth". Rosa said that she knows one day very soon, she WILL cross over to the other side, and she is ready to go to that wonderful land, Heaven. What a testimony!!!! If that doesn't give you a lift, I don't know what it would take. God's own Word tells us in Psalms 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." We know the Lord cannot lie, He honors His promises.

The funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 25th in Crocker, MO. The children are:

Carol (Rick) Barton of Haleyville
Billy Winn of Crocker, MO
Steve (Gwen) Winn of Glen Carbon, IL
Mike Winn of Glen Carbon, IL
Vernon (Pam) Winn, Jr. of Granite City, IL

Vernon Winn, Sr. passed away 12 years ago.

There are 10 grandchildren
18 great-grandchildren
3 great-great grandchildren

I want to thank the ladies of WCFC who helped with some food and supplies for the family during this time. If you'd like to donate or help in any way at all, please call me, Dianne @ 487-8802 or 468-0905 or see me at church. Anything you can do will be greatly appreciated by this dear family.

Please, continue to support Neal and Sondra Sandlin, and Harold's wife, Eloise, as they go to care for Harold. He needs our prayers as never before. Ask the Lord to give them strength and grace during this time. Harold has been in the hospital in Birmingham, since Easter. It's time for him to be coming home again, and well.

God is Good

Sounds simple, doesn't it? He loves us, His children, and desires the best for us, sending His own Son to die a horrendous, cruel, and barbaric death-beaten and nailed to a cross. Jesus paid a debt we never could pay. Amazing Grace, Unending Love. We have heard it all our lives. We are precious to our Saviour and He tells us in the Word that Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.

So, what do you do when it's you who is suffering? It is easy to question God when we are in the midst of life-altering pain and misery. Lord, where are You? Don't You hear our cries? Jesus, help!!! Do we have the right to grumble and complain when things fall apart? Perhaps it would be wise to take a look at what the Lord tells us about the trouble and heartaches that are an inevitable part of this earthly walk.

Pain and problems are part of our human experience. The Bible is full of Godly men and women who endured great hardships tho' they did nothing to deserve it. Does that mean we should be above all that? We have to stop and remember that whatever comes our way, God is still in control and has a plan for our lives. Did you ever stop to think that trouble actually drives the believer to his knees to seek a deeper understanding and comfort from his Heavenly Father. Often, we forget how much we need Him. Satan means for the evil to harm us, but God can take that very same evil and work it out for our good. What an awesome God we serve!!!

Another danger is that we can become a stumblingblock to someone else when we do not allow the Lord to lead us through trying times. Someone Wednesday night pointed out that it is estimated there are 22 people who are being influenced by your life. Someone is watching you each and every day. That is a sobering thought. We all fail, we are human beings, we know, of course, that we have an advocate with the Father through Jesus Christ where we may confess our sins and be forgiven, but how much better it would be to trust and obey and do all we can to honor the Lord.

Lord give us grace and wisdom to turn to You, the true source of strength and help in time of need.

Sunday Celebration 7-12-2009

Here are a few picture of Sunday Morning Celebrations described by Sister Dianne below!

Birthday Celebration

What a wonderful day we had Sunday at our church. We were priviledged to share in celebrating the birthdays of Ms. Rosa and also Travis Ray Carter. These two dear people are so precious to our congregation. Ms. Rosa is 80 and Bro. Carter is 84. Her family came down from Missouri to help with the party and the daughters sang "Amazing Grace". What a beautiful thing to witness. Then she spoke for a couple of minutes. She told of being so near death many times and seeing her husband who passed on 12 years ago, and they would walk the sides of a river to come to a bridge. Yet she was told, "No, you can't cross, not yet. There is still more for you to do here on earth." She told us all, "Whatever you do, never, never ever give up on God, no matter what!!!"

I know I am so very blessed to know this precious saint. I know~I KNOW~the Lord allowed me to meet Ms. Rosa for a special reason. She has touched my life in such a sweet way and I am thankful and encouraged through her testimony.

The other birthday was for Travis Ray Carter, who is my step-dad, and has been just like a father to me for more than 25 years. Probably noone in this part of Alabama has not known him in some area. Travis has helped more people with insurance needs, and since he allowed me to work for him for a few years, I was able to see how he went over and above the call to assist folks in whatever way they had need of. Many people simply mentioned having trouble legally or with finances and he would sit down and either call or write a letter to just the right person and before long, the problem would be history.

God knew we would need each other in our earthly walk, and He knows how to bring people together at crucial times in our lives. We only need look around to see the Mighty Hand of God at work. Thank you, Lord, for our family and friends~what a treasure in earthen vessels.

Do you love music? Good music? No, I mean GREAT music? Great guitar picking? Wonderful singing? Eating? Fellowship? Learning who has talent you never knew? If so, you missed a real treat last Saturday night at church. We met at 5pm and went on till......

It was better than good, and hopefully, Bro. Smith will plan another one of these kind of events soon. There were a few visitors, at least they were new faces to me. I was told some of that talent came from Haleyville. Anytime these special folks want to come back will be a true blessing!

Bro. Ronnie brought the grill and cooked up some hotdogs, and since he had the 4-wheeler already on the trailer, he took the kids for a ride around back. Only a couple were a little bit shy but Zoe was all for going faster and FASTER!!!!

Sunday July 7, 2009 Independance Day Celebration

We were very thankful to enjoy a wonderful service Sunday with special speaker Brother Travis Ray Carter, a World War II Veteran. He spoke of the war & how he was honored to serve his country. This past week the journal record published an article about Brother Carter. God Bless Brother Carter!!

Above are a few pictures from Brother Carter's very own camera in 1943, while liberating a death camp in Germany.
