The ladies of WCFC have gotten off to a great start this week. We met at the home of Dianne Cockrell in Winfield on Thursday and had a room full of ladies who are excited and ready to get to work (and have a lot of fun too). I don't think anyone realized how much talent and enthusiasm was there ready to be used! We had 8 ladies total, and there were several who wanted to be there but were unable to come this week, and there are many more who are going to be involved as soon as they can.
This group is not limited to the church family, and we had a few there Thursday who do not go to our church. Please, if you know of anyone who is interested in learning to quilt, crochet, embroider, share recipes, whatever, be sure to tell them about the meetings. All are welcome!! I have heard so many great ideas about what we could do as a sewing circle, such as lap quilts and gifts for nursing homes and hospitals. The little I have been involved in doing for charity is the most satisfying thing you'll ever experience. No wonder our Lord told us it's better to give than recieve. Many women work these days, but we can find ways to include everyone who wants to be a part of the fun. Beth Smith works at Hospice NorthWest and all the folks there are excited to know we are forming a group.
Our hope is that this group will grow and together serve our community while we enjoy the fellowship of being together. If you'd like to join or know of someone who is interested, please call me, Dianne @487-8802 or Janice @487-9001.

Update on Alan Edge
We have heard from Margie about Alan and the news is wonderful. Margie is so excited and praises the Lord for his recovery so far. She says Alan is sitting up and they are to get him up and walking by today. Alan is anxious to get back to church and the whole family thanks everyone for the prayers and loves WCFC so very much!
Keep praying for them and praising God for His Excellent Greatness!!! It is true that God is good, all the time, even when we can't see the road ahead, we can rest in our Father's promises that He loves and keeps His Children. Thank you, Lord for your faithfulness and your mercy.

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST FOR ALAN AND MARGIE
Jan Goodwin just called with a little information about Alan Edge, her son-in-law, and our beloved member and brother. He had been scheduled for open-heart surgery today at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham. They were to do 5 by-passes, but Jan said they could only do 3 because his heart is 'brittle'. Carol tells me that means the oxygen in the blood delivered to the heart is not enough to sustain full function, so that is just a sign that we all must band together and pray as never before. This special family is so very precious to our church family so Margie sends her love and asks us to pray for them.

Haiti Information
TEAM FROM DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MEETS WITH HAITI OVERSEER
Bishop Flavio Rosario and Pastor Quiterio Rosario were able to make their way into Port-au-Prince on Saturday and met with Bishop Dorlean, overseer of Haiti, and some of our Haitian brothers. The long journey into the Haitian capital was slowed by traffic, clogging the roads as others sought to deliver aid. At many points the roadways were made inpassable by debris so though delayed, the Dominican team arrived safely. They delivered enough food and water to the children at the orphanage to last about a week. Bishop Dorlean was overwhelmed by the support and could not find words to express his gratitude for this act of Christian solidarity. Bishop Benjamin Feliz, Director of Finance and publications, was able to speak with Brother Dorlean and encourage him of the global church's full support for Haiti in this hour of crisis. The office of the General Presbyter of Central America, Mexico and the Hispanic Caribbean, along with the leadership of Panama and the Dominican Republic is providing tremendous assistance in the relief efforts. Bishop Quiterio Rosario, district overseer of the La Romana district in the Dominican Republic, is coordinating a truck shipment of water, food, sheets, blankets, some tents and other supplies within the next 48 hours. Plans are being made for additional shipments of supplies from the Dominican Republic National Office. The General Presbyter of the Caribbean, Bishop Brice Thompson, is working with his leadership to provide relief and assistance to our Haitian brothers and sisters. Given the difficulties with getting supplies into Haiti by air or sea, the land route from the Doninican is the most feasible, despite the challenges with security on the ground. Cash donations witll be used to purchase supplies in the Dominican Republic to take in relief by road.

Funeral Arrangements
Ronnie Cockrell's mom passed away in the nursing home in Double Springs Monday morning about 5am in her sleep. This is an answer to prayer. She was 87 and had been in bad health physically and mentally for several years.
The funeral will be held at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs on Thursday at 2pm. Viewing is from 12 noon till 2 pm. We appreciate the expressions of sympathy from our friends and family. God bless you all.

Thank you Lord for fathers.
I know it's not Father's Day or Mother's Day, but I wanted to share a few words from my own precious daddy. He has been gone for almost 28 years, but I miss him the same now as I ever did. He was just a 19 year~old Army recruit in WWII and was sent right off the farm land of north Alabama to one of the worst places on earth. For a country boy to have to witness the horrors of war while he was just a young man must have been terrible. Like many vets, he didn't like to dwell on the unspeakable things he had to witness and endure, but when he was on the frontlines in Italy, he wrote a prayer from his heart. As you read, you can see he had his mother and other loved ones on his mind. I am priviledged to have the original prayer framed in my home. It took me many years before I could even read it without weeping. Maybe it will touch your heart too.
"My Prayer each Night"
Our Father, we, as tired and troubled soldiers, we come to Thee this night, giving thanks to Thee, that Thou has cared for us thus far, we ask thee, Oh God, to continue to care for us, as little ones in great need of Thy help. Be with our loved ones, whom we have left behind against our own will, protect them, and help them to bear their troubles. And we ask Thee, Oh God, if it is Thine will, to once again bring this tormented and war~torn world to peace, cease the guns of war, and touch our hearts in a way that we may meet our enemies, not with arms of war, but with outstretched arms of brotherly love.
And Father, we ask Thee to be with the loved ones of those that have given their lives on the battlefield, help them to bear it, and comfort them with Thine ever~protecting arms of love. Give us strength, courage, and faith to do the things that Thou would have us to do. And we are thankful, Father, for Thy Son, who has taught us to say...
"Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, forgive us of our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen."
As we come to a close of this prayer, Father, we ask Thee to grant us these askings according to Thine own judgement. Not our will, but Thine be done. Amen.

Jacob Generation Part II
This is the next message in the sermon series, Jacob Generation, from Abba's House in Hixson, TN. with Pastor Ron Phillips. May it bless you also.
Let your troubles be stepping stones into the Face of God!
We, as believers, are kings, princes, and queens~that is who we are. Most of us don't know it because the world beats us down all the time. But deep inside each of us, there's an ever~living, never~dying spirit that only Jesus can redeem. We can have a new position, new power. The God who spoke and galaxies exploded into being, looked at Jacob and said, "you can be blessed." This is the Jacob of the Old Testament. He's struggled with God and man and the God of the Universe says "YOU WIN!!!!" In our Christian faith, if you lose, you win, if you give up your life, you'll save it~this is the principle of the Kingdom. And who commanded that blessing of God? A broken~down, physically~challenged loser, Jacob. But Jacob had God give him a blessing! (Read Ezekiel 37 some time, about the Resurrection in the valley of the Dry Bones.)
We need an all~night wrestling match with God. The Lord may knock you down, and put you through a time of testing, but on the other side of it, you will know that the great I AM, the Lord Almighty, the God of the Universe will bring you to a place of new position, new power and new prosperity. If that's not happening to you (or me) maybe we should stop whining and say to God and the Devil, "I'm here, I'm not leaving, I'm going to have my blessing!!!" When you have a real encounter with God, it will give you a new perspective. Jacob said in Genesis 32:30, "I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." Instead of God killing Jacob, the Lord showed His love~He saved him. Jacob became Israel, blessed of Almighty God. For the rest of his life he limped where the angel touched the hollow of his thigh. Yes, the Lord could have healed him, but He left that as a reminder of what had happened to Jacob.
How does this relate to us today? We live in a hurting and broken world with hurting people, but we should stand and say to the devil, "We are the blood~bought children of God, weeping may endure for a night, but JOY cometh in the morning, we are going to receive a blessing!" Psalms 78:5-7. The Lord established a testimony in Jacob for generations to come!!! Today we need a revival, and we can have it, we have that testimony given to us and our children's children. "Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" Ps 85:6
"Lord, remember David and all his afflictions: how he sware unto the Lord, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob...." Ps 132:1-5. We have to bring all our brokenness to God and ask Him to revive us again that we might rejoice in Him. God will say YES!!!! That is pleasing to the Father. But above all, we have to enthrone Him in our hearts, and He must inhabit our praises.
In John's gospel we read about Jesus at Jacob's well. There He meets a woman and He tells her all things she ever did. Out of the misery of her life, broken and bruised, she met the Master and He gave her rivers of living water. She was broken, but out of that brokenness came a well of water springing up into everlasting life. So, what did she do? She took the Good News to her generation. Look what one broken woman did. Christ met her where she was and transformed her.
"Behold, I will do a new thing.........and rivers in the desert" Is 43:19. Salvation is new birth, you won't ever get over it. Look at Isaiah 44:1-6. Precious promises from the Father. Don't you love Psalm 34, especially verse 19? 'many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all'.
We'll get the blessing in spite of our failure, rebellion and brokenness~our limping. God formed you from the womb. Is 44: 3-5 'I will pour water upon him that is thirsty....' For us to be thirsty, God has to take us through some hurt, some loneliness, some loss. Hold on for the blessing. God WILL pour floods on dry ground, He will pour His Spirit and His Blessing on your children, and they shall spring up. We are qualified as being the Jacob Generation. Verse 6 says "I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God." How many of us have lost a job, been betrayed, had a broken home, been run off, had a wayward child, been through a church split, struggled, felt all alone, been falsely accused, lied about? God has chosen the weak things to confound the wise. He will raise you up so people will say "I can't believe they did that". Put Him first in your life and He will not let you down. Hold your head up and hang onto God.
Jump over to the New Testament to Hebrews 11:21. We see Jacob is old, he's gone to live with Joseph in Egypt, and "by faith Jacob, when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph; and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff." The last thing Jacob did was to take that blessing and pour it out on the next generation.
In this world we will have trouble, Jesus told us that, but cheer up, WE WIN!!!! The Lord Jesus Christ has overcome the world!!!
