We lost a dear member last night, Brandi Scott, who was 30, passed away Sat nite at her home. She recently was baptized and joined the church. Brandi is Drake and Jerri Scott's youngest daughter, 30, and is beloved by all who knew her.
Brandi, we love you and will always carry your sweet smile and loving heart with us. And, we will see you again one day.

A Message in Bible Geneology
This may have already been included in the blog at another time, but it is worth another look.
Bible scholar, Dr. Chuck Missler, had often wondered why the Lord thought it was important enough to include detailed geneology of Adam and what we often refer to as the "begats". So he investigated the scriptures and came up with something very interesting, to say the least. In Genesis 5, we read of the descendants of Adam, the first created man, through to Noah. We all know the part Noah played in God's plan. Dr. Missler spent alot of time researching the names and their meanings.
First is Adam, then Seth, who begat Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech, then Noah. The Bible tell us that they lived so many years and begat sons and daughters, then names a particular son.
When you write down what each name means in the original language and tie the meanings together, they form a sentence:
Adam means= Man (is)
Seth means= Appointed
Enos means= Mortal
Cainan means= Sorrow, (but the)
Mahalaleel means= Blessed God
Jared means= Shall come down
Enoch means= Teaching (that)
Methuselah means= His Death Shall Bring (to the)
Lamech means= Despairing (mankind)
Noah means= Comfort and Rest
Put all together into a statement reads:
"Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but the blessed God shall come down, teaching (that) His death shall bring despairing (mankind) comfort and rest."
How like our loving, caring Father to tuck this message of hope into the very depths of His Word. It is there for us to find when we take the time to study and mine the gold nuggets that He has provided for us!
As Bro. Smith has often reminded us, his mentor, Bro. Haney, would tell him "The Bible is an endless sea of knowledge. Jump in and swim forever!!" One day we will get to meet this man of God too!

Payment!
Saturday, October 23, 2010, Bro. Smith, Neal Sandlin and Ronnie Cockrell went to State Bank and Trust to make the first payment on the land which Winfield City Family Church bought on Hwy 129. Here are a few pictures showing them with Mr. Harlon Farrar as they present the check. This marks a huge step in the life of the church since it has only been a very few months since the land was purchased!
Praise the Lord! Let us keep our eyes on Him who loved us and gave His life for us!
WCFC Yard Sale 2010
Saturday, October 23, we held another fund raiser, our church-wide yard sale. We have added some pictures so you can see we had alot of things donated and everybody joined in to help. There were a huge range of items including, hunting gear, what-nots, and furniture. The money raised will go into the fund to pay for the land on Hwy 129. It really was a very good day, and alot of money was brought in. Thanks to all who turned out to lend a hand. God bless you all!!

THAT'S MY KING!!
This is a sermon preached by a black minister that I heard at another church one year and never forgot how moving and humbling it was. Dr. Shadrach Meshach Lockridge, who passed away in 2000, gave this stirring message, and it is thrilling! It's entitled,
THAT'S MY KING!
The Bible says my King is the King of the Jews. He's the King of Israel. He's the King of righteousness. He's the King of the ages. He's the King of Heaven. He's the King of glory. He's the King of Kings, and He's the Lord of Lords. That's my King! I wonder, do you know Him?
My King is a sovereign King. No means of measure can define His limitless love. He's enduringly strong. He's entirely sincere. He's eternally steadfast. He's immortally graceful. He's imperially powerful. He's impartially merciful. Do you know Him?
He's the greatest phenomenon that has ever crossed the horizon of the world. He's God's Son. He's the sinner's Savior. He's the peak of civilization. He's unparalled. He's unprecedented. He's the loftiest idea in literature. He's the highest personality in philosophy. He's the fundamental doctrine of true theology. He's the only one qualified to be the all-sufficient Savior. I wonder, do you know Him today?
He supplies strength to the weak. He's available for the tempted and the tried. He sympathizes and saves. He strengthens and sustains. He guards and He guides. He heals the sick. He cleanses lepers. He forgives sinners. He discharges debtors. He delivers the captives. He defends the feeble. He blesses the young. He serves the unfortunate. He regards the aged. He rewards the diligent, and He beautifies the meager. I wonder if you know Him?
He's the key to knowledge. He's the wellspring of wisdom. He's the doorway of deliverance. He's the pathway to peace. He's the roadway of righteousness. He's the highway to holiness. He's the gateway to glory. Do you know Him?
Well, His light is matchless. His goodness if limitless. His mercy is everlasting. His love never changes. His Word is enough. His grace is sufficient. He's the reign of righteousness and His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. I wish I could describe Him to you. Yes, He is indescribable. You can't get Him out of your mind. You can't get Him off of your head. You can't outlive Him, and you can't live without Him.
Well, the Pharisees couldn't stand Him, but they found out they couldn't stop Him. Pilate couldn't find any fault in Him. Herod couldn't kill Him. Death couldn't handle Him, and the grave couldn't hold Him. I wonder if you know Him?
What about you? Do you know Jesus, King Jesus? He's my King!

Sisters Meeting
The Sisters of the Heart had a great meeting this week. We had some new ladies and of course, ate and laughed, along with our sewing. When I look back at what we have accomplished over less than a year's time, it is pretty awesome.
You don't have to come on the night of meetings to participate, we can use your ideas and donated fabric and supplies. We've had several people give fabric and other items to our "stash". You would be welcome to come and join in. We are planning to go and speak to the Activities Director at the nursing home for ideas on a project we could do for the patients there. Perhaps the residents might be interested in handwork or quilting that they can get involved with.
Please pray for this group, and join us when you can. We'd love to see you.

Update on Sisters of the Heart
The ladies who are involved in Sisters of the Heart sewing group want to take a few minutes to tell you what we've been up to lately and invite you to come and join us. We want new members to get involved. During one of the first meetings, one of the girls said we were just like sisters, sisters of the heart, and the name stuck.
We started last Spring meeting at the home of Dianne Cockrell (myself) in Winfield to just put our heads together and see if we could do something to help not only our church, but other people. The first project we took on was to make some banners for the inside of WCFC. There are ladies who donate fabric and supplies to us, and we even have a page on FaceBook where there are more than 60 members. The interest and moral support helps us stay motivated. If you go to Facebook, just search for us at Sisters of the Heart, and you'll see a heart-shaped wreath--that's our page. Each "sister" has her own skills and talents and everyone can suggest more ways we can make a difference in the lives of others.
We use my sewing room to store our fabric and ongoing items and quilts. We have many pictures online showing the things we've either started, in the process of being finished, (UFO's--unfinished objects), things already made and some that's already been given away. Some of the girls have taken quilts home to finish them, and it is a good feeling to donate things to people who will appreciate them. We have had a box of crocheted caps and little sheets and blankets taken to Birmingham to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UAB just this summer.
You would be so very welcome to join our group. We usually eat and of course, laugh and talk, and sew. Many times we have Birthday Parties for the one having a birthday, and we love to take plenty of pictures. Our ladies have been anywhere from the ages of 13 to 94, and we love working together. There's always new ideas for projects and new gadgets on the market to talk about. Each item is even labeled "Sisters of the Heart".
We have put up a booth during the Saturdays of AngelFood deliveries, and also for the Chili Cookoff. Several people looked at our work and made some great comments. One of the ideas we have talked about doing is hats and scarves for cancer patients. I have talked to the American Cancer Society in Tuscaloosa and they sent us some material for ideas.
There is a great blog we go to for neat ideas about sewing using ordinary, inexpensive items. It is www.sewmanyways.blogspot.com We had alot of fun with one of her ideas which was to use a mechanic's magnetic tray to hold our pins, and also a pick-up tool with a magnet on the end to grab pins and needles off the floor. That's perfect for those of us who aren't exactly 'teenagers' any more.
Tell your friends about our group and come on and join us! We'll make sure you have a great time!

A Great Sunday at WCFC
Today, October 10, 2010, Winfield City Family Church, which is now officially an organized church, continues to grow and prosper! We enjoyed a very good crowd today! Bro. Smith always begins the service with announcements and today was a full day. The report on the First Annual Chili Cookoff was that while it did not actually meet expectations money-wise, it was a huge success in alot of ways. Rick's neice and family, Julie and Mark and daughter Olivia, were here from Ohio and were able to spend time with Rick and Carol, as well as help with the cookoff. Olivia was especially helpful to me as I had to unload and set up two booths. Thank you, my new friend Olivia!
All the kids worked hard in the Pepsi wagon serving drinks and food. Several of the prize winners donated their money back to the church. Alot of people took pictures and they will be posted on the blog soon. The events were alot of fun, and there were games and even a pinata' for the kids. Who can forget the apron contest? Ronnie Cockrell was a good sport, wearing a very flattering pink rose apron with alot of lace and ribbons. Gara Wesley wore a hat that was indescribable! So cute, we appreciate all of you.
Mark McDonald gave a short talk explaining DNA connections that form the shape of a Cross. Then he led a prayer before the meal.
I understand there were tense moments during some hard-fought checkers games. All you can say is 'you can't win them all'.
Speaking of competition, the little kids beat the socks off the older ones at knocking the pinata'. It was a sight to see, and so much fun! You could hear horseshoes clanging in the background too.
Bro. Mike Knight and Bro. Smith were in Hamilton ministering to the work release prisoners. If only one man recieves the Lord Jesus, then all those efforts will be well worth it. We know Christ loved us enough that He would have gone to the Cross for only one person. Bro. Todd Scott is a dedicated, strong in the Lord man who works tirelessly in Prison Ministry. We should lift these men up as they do this special calling for the Lord.
We have set a date for the church-wide Yard Sale. It is scheduled for October 23 and will be held on our property on Hwy 129 from 7AM to lunch time. Start now setting out your items to be donated and priced in time for this fund-raiser!!
Without calling for a formal business meeting, Bro. Smith made some appointments for the church:
Janice McDaniel--she will head up the Education Department. Janice is very well qualified for this position because she is a retired school teacher and is teaching the Girls' Sunday School class.
Chris Bell--Youth Leader, Chris has worked with Bro. Smith before, left this area for Illinois, came back home to work with our congregation. His wife, Sara, is a great help to Chris in this area of church work, but we also need the parents to help in whatever way they are able.
Dianne Cockrell--Clerical work, notes and business of the church, and also on the blog team.
Joan Smith--Treasurer of the church, as well as teaching Sunday School, and playing keyboard.
Jerri Scott--she has already been doing much of this work and assisting Joan
Carol and Rick Barton--Benevolence Committee, they are in charge of organizing and notifing people when there is a need such as a death in a family, etc. Carol and Rick have already been doing Angel Food Ministry. Hopefully, one day our church will be in a position to offer a Food Pantry to actually give food to anyone in need. Please pray for this outreach.
Neal and Sondra Sandlin--Activities Directors, such as the Fall Fest and the upcoming Yard Sale.
What a treat for us with special music from Clay and Angela Dye, "It's covered by the Blood, come on home, child". How blessed we are to have such fine singers and musicians. Praise the Lord!
